The Kenya Institute of Primate Research (KIPRE) formally, Institute of Primate Research is a biomedical pre-clinical research facility in Kenya which has existed since 1958. Established under Science and Technology Act No. 28 of 2013, through legal notice No. 273, 2017, KIPRE is a body Corporate and a Semi-Autonomous Government Agency (SAGA), whose mandate is to improve human health through biomedical research and is domiciled in the Ministry of Health State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards.
In line with the need to realize the above mandate, KIPRE Management is seeking to recruit suitable and qualified person to fill the position of Director General -KIP 1

Position Functions
1) Coordinate the day to day administrative and operational functions of the Institute and chairs the top management and other key committee meetings;
2) Provide leadership to senior management and staff;
3) Responsible for managing KIPRE’s stakeholders needs and expectations;
4) Promote positive corporate culture and image of the Centre;
5) Oversee timely preparation of accurate and relevant Board papers;
6) Provide regular communication to the Board on key technical, financial and administrative matters;
7) Performance management of direct reportees.
8) Oversee the formulation, implementation, and review of strategies for undertaking Biomedical and Preclinical research using non-human primates and other experimental animals for development of health products and other services that meet local and international standards.
9) Provide leadership in design, implementation and review of strategies, policies and frameworks for enhancement of the KIPRE’s capacity to conduct Biomedical and Preclinical research.
10) Provide leadership in development, implementation and review of the Institute’s vision, mission and objectives;
11) Provide leadership in the execution and communication of the Board’s strategies, decisions and policies while serving as the link between the Board and Management;
12) Official spokesperson of the institute;
13) Accounting officer of the Centre with overall responsibility and authority to incur expenses in accordance with the PFMA, 2012;
14) Provide leadership in stakeholder management and the enhancement of the corporate image of the organization;
15) Provide leadership in managing the budget of the Institute and ensuring that the funds are properly expended and accounted for;
16) Spearhead mobilization of resources to support implementation of the Institute’s programmes;
17) Provide leadership in promotion and use of ICT to enhance service delivery to the Institute;
18) Spearheads development and implementation of effective performance management systems;
19) Provide leadership on regular, thorough, and prompt communication to the Board on key technical financial and administrative matters;
20) Oversee development, implementation, and review of the Institute’s risk management framework;
21) Provide leadership that ensures the organization has effective management structure including succession plan;
22) Provide leadership in promotion of corporate Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) programmes;
23) Promoting National values and principles of public service in the Institute;
24) Providing strategic leadership in accordance with the mandate of the Institute’s legal framework;
25) Spearhead the performance management system and ensure implementation and fulfilment of the policies and programs, work plans and adherence to agreed performance targets and service standards of the Institute;
26) Spearhead establishment, implementation and review of the applicable Research standards;
27) Oversee implementation of Institute’s resources and ensure they are optimally utilized and fully accounted for in line with existing laws and regulations;
28) Oversee continuous improvement in the quality, value of services to all research activities in the Institute;
29) Provide guidance and spearhead research activities in the institute in line with the best research practices globally;
30) Provide leadership in development of medical products by the Institute;
31) Foster a robust, motivated workforce through appropriate human resource strategies polices and plans for delivery of the institute’s mandate;
32) Enhancing corporate culture that promotes ethical practices and good corporate governance;
33) Provide leadership and overall coordination to maintain effective collaboration and partnerships with organs of Government and Government agencies, county Governments, international organizations, private sector, non-governmental organization and other Stakeholders; and
34) Provide leadership and advice on Biomedical and preclinical Research for development of Health products.
35) Provide leadership in the development and implementation of corruption prevention and mitigation strategies in the Centre;
36) Provide leadership in the design and implementation of human capital strategies in the Centre to ensure adequate staffing and continuous training and development of staff;
37) Provide leadership in formulation, implementation and review of financial and accounting policies and procedures that meet requirements of the Public Finance Management Act No.18 of 2012 and International Public Sector Accounting Standards to ensure prudent and optimal utilization of the Centre’s financial resources;
38) Provide leadership in execution of risk management policy and strategies that ensure the Centre has a robust system and processes of accountability, risk management, internal controls, business continuity and succession management;

Qualification Requirements
1. Doctorate Degree in Biomedical Sciences or other related scientific, fields from a recognized Institution.
2. Master’s Degree Biomedical Sciences or equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution.
3. Bachelor’s Degree Biomedical Sciences or equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution.
4. At Least 15 years relevant work experience, 10 years of which have been in a senior Management position of Public Institution
5. Evidence of at least Thirty (30) publication in refereed journals.
6. Attracted Funding not less than Kshs 100 million.
7. Leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized Institution.
8. Proficiency in Computer Applications
9. Fulfilling the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution
10. Member of a professional body and in good standing where applicable.

Experience in Primate Research will be an added advantage

Terms of service:
Five(5) years contract renewable once based on performance.
